The importance of videoing oral history to document not only how the Doric language is spoken, but also on how we look. There are certain features that mark a Doric face, shaped possibly by the environment we are brought up in. Bessie Cordiner Wilkins has a great history. She worked in the laundry at The Great Northern Railway Golf Hotel in Cruden Bay. She also was a caddy for Sir Jeremiah Coleman. (Coleman’s Mustard)
Bessie is a perfect example of how the Doric dialect is still live and kicking. In April this year , 2020, Bessie will reach her 100th Birthday. I have had the pleasure of interviewing Bessie on a few occasions and thanks to her mindful nature, her memory is as “sharp as a tack”.
